Google’s been extremely busy rolling out updates these past few months! Google My Business is now full of enhancements that will help put your business on the map. We’ve made a list of the updates you simply can’t miss!
Important Updates from Google
Here are just a few of the new features that can help your business succeed:
March 27 – Business Descriptions
Google My Business now allows businesses to describe themselves. This comes after two years of not allowing companies to update their description. These descriptions are displayed on the business’ listing when it appears on search, helping customers make more informed decisions.
April 5 – Services Field
Google launched a menu feature in February that let restaurants and other food companies list their menu items, but starting in April all businesses can now add services, service descriptions, and costs. It still only works for certain types of services, not unlike Google’s Local Service Ads, but Google is gearing up to fill a huge need by allowing more service information.
April 23 – Google Posts
Google understands that more than 70% of users are searching on their mobile phones, and Google My Business is ready to match the popularity of a mobile-first website. In late April, Google moved GMB Posts to the top of the Knowledge Panel to give them better visibility (see below). This is especially prominent on mobile devices because it fulfills customers’ desire to immediately see the information that is most helpful to them.
May 8 – Video Google Posts
Google is now allowing businesses to add videos to their GMB Posts. The maximum video size is 100 MB, but Google accepts a wide range of formatting types that should make adding video to your business’ Knowledge Panel easy. Accepted formats include MP4, FLV, WMV, AVI, MPG, and more!
May 11 – Prompt Responses
Google will send your customers a notification via email when you respond to a review on your Google My Business. Google has added a 5-minute time delay to this feature just in case the business owner needs to make a change in their response. This is a great feature for any business that is looking to increase customer loyalty by responding promptly to customer reviews. A mobile push notification feature will hopefully come out later this year.
What Do These Updates Mean for Your Business?
Google knows that a mobile revolution is coming. It’s not enough for businesses to just have a fantastic website anymore; they have to be ahead of their competition across the board. A study found that only 44% of businesses take advantage of the free Google My Business page. We know that you’re busy as a business owner; let Turn The Page manage your GMB and create Google Posts that will educate your existing customers and bring in new clients!
