Are You Content with your Content?

By January 1, 2013Content Writing

If you’re a fan of the movie, Animal House, you’ll know the line screamed by Neidermeyer, the obnoxious frat guy, “What do you want to do with your life??!!” The same applies to your marketing efforts.

“What do you want to do with your website??!!”

Do you want to:

  • Generate business leads?
  • Be seen as a subject matter authority?
  • Increase sales?
  • Retain customers?
  • Inform and educate?
  • Entertain?

If you answered yes to one of these, you should’ve answered yes to ALL of them. Now pick yourself up off the floor and know that this is a reachable goal. The average stay on the home page of a business website is 30 seconds. What, wait, 30 seconds?? Take a deep breath and stay with me.  You can persuade them to stick around if you just do a few things.

Consumers visit business websites because they have a problem, a question, a need of some kind and they hope you can help them. So your content needs to be accessible, understandable and useful or they’ll just boogie. If you deliver high-quality, relevant and valuable information to prospects and customers you can drive profitable consumer action. Educating your customer will result in trust and belief in your brand and they will see you as an authority that can meet their needs.

Using blogs, videos, email newsletters or other social media the best marketers tell a story. Your own experiences in your industry, how your passion fuels your services or products and even possibly, how your failures made you a better, more compassionate business owner. It used to be that proprietary information was kept close to the vest and only delivered after the check cleared. Those days are gone and if you openly share your knowledge and expertise you’ll engender trust and a desire to learn more by engaging your services or products.

Be ready to create a community, educate your customers, answer their questions honestly, and if need be, apologize and make good. People can see a BSer from a mile away and they won’t forgive, they’ll just move on.

This is just a sample of how proper use of content can directly influence the success of your business. It’s much more than how much you cost and your phone number. All the price sheets in the world won’t motivate your customers if they don’t think of you as a partner to help them solve their problem, stop their pain or better their lives. Engaging them with thoughtful, relevant and indispensable content will bring and KEEP them. If your business is at a point where you truly don’t have time for content; let the professionals at Turn The Page Online Online Marketing show you how unique and exciting content can be the key to continued success.
